GOL

GOL Bru 2.jpg

Gol (To cry/ weep) features a 5-strong female ensemble and tells the story of the bean coainte, professional grievers prevalent in Ireland for centuries. This evocative, stylised blend of theatrical performance and powerful vocal lament is unique, intimate and deeply moving as this ancient musical tradition finds its way to a contemporary stage.

Audiences follow the story of Eithne, lead crier of a forgotten community as change comes to her door. This newly written work explores what is lost in society as we strive to progress, and how we might grieve differently together.

Cast includes Julianna Bloodgood (Song of the Goat) Cáitlín Ní Chualáin (Corn Uí Riada winner) Helen Gregg, Lara Campbell and Ceara Conway.

Gol premiered as a multidisciplinary performance on Dec 10th 2021, Nuns Island Theatre, Galway.
